Cosmetic Dentist in Newport Beach Supports Fight Against Ovarian Cancer
Dr. John Cross, a dentist in Newport Beach, recently played in the 9th Annual Tux & Tennies Tournament hosted by the Queen of Hearts Foundation for ovarian cancer. The event took place at the Newport Beach Tennis Club and all proceeds went to support research to help battle ovarian cancer, a condition affecting over 20,000 women in the U.S each year according to the Center for Disease Control. Dr. Cross, usually focusing on cosmetic procedures such as porcelain veneers and teeth whitening at his practice in Orange County, says he was happy to donate his time and money to the tournament as an event competitor.
The Queen of Hearts Foundation, an organization exclusively dedicated to raising funds for ovarian cancer, recently hosted its 9th Annual Tux & Tennies Tournament at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. As a cosmetic dentist in Orange County, Dr. John Cross participated in the event by donating his time and money to support the battle against ovarian cancer, one of the deadliest cancers affecting women. Dr. Cross usually promotes goodwill and the health of his patients by performing routine dental cleanings and oral cancer screenings at his practice in Newport Beach. However, he says he was proud to turn in his dental tools for a tennis racquet to help raise money for research and development and fight the deadly disease.
Founded in 2000 by the children of Ann S. Dobbie, who passed away from ovarian cancer, the Queen of Hearts Foundation is the only organization in Southern California dedicated specifically to raising funds for ovarian cancer research projects. Currently, the Queen of Hearts Foundation is partnered with the University of California, Irvine Ovarian Cancer Center for Excellence to implement a clinic providing cancer screenings, education, and awareness for the prevention and early detection of ovarian cancer. It has also supported research efforts at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL and Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, among other research projects. The tennis event supported ovarian cancer research by donating all proceeds to the CHAO Cancer Center at the University of California in Irvine.
Dr. Cross, an avid tennis player, says he is honored to have played his part in such a worthy effort for the promotion of cancer awareness and research. While he normally provides services in dental cosmetics and oral cancer screenings, Dr. Cross also adds that he was thankful to have the opportunity to give his talents and charity towards another cause that will further support good health amongst his patients and his community. “I am honored to get a chance to play tennis with pros like Rick Leach and Vince Spadea, and I thank them for participating in this charity event. This event is one of my favorite weekends of the year, and I hope to play and support Queen of Hearts Foundation again next year. Samantha Mills, as well as all the sponsors, players, and volunteers should feel great about helping to fight ovarian cancer.”

Dr. Cross has been featured in the 2011 Q3 issue of CEREC magazine for his work on a challenging, one-day cosmetic dentistry restoration. Dr. Cross was treating a 48-year-old patient who wanted to restore an older set of dental veneers. The patient wanted to have the old dental veneers removed and 12 new porcelain veneers placed, giving them a beautiful and durable new smile. The challenge: Prep, scan, design, mill, layer, glaze and seat 12 porcelain veneers in one day.
Using modern dental technology and materials, Dr. Cross, the OC Lifesmiles staff, and the restoration team rose to the occasion and began early in the day. First, they started by removing all of the patients old dental veneers. Then the patients temporary veneers were fabricated, placed and adjusted for bite and function. Once the adjustments were made to the temporaries, creation and milling the final porcelain veneers was then completed. After some minor adjustments Dr. Cross placed the final porcelain veneers giving the patient a stunning, natural looking smile, that is also very durable.
The entire one day cosmetic restoration process was made possible with the combination of CEREC technology, all-ceramic materials, and the training and experience of Dr. Cross, the OC Lifesmile staff, and the restoration team. Cosmetic Dentist in Newport Beach on Smile Makeover Keys
According to a 2011 survey of cosmetic dentists by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), the most common patient problems are chipped, discolored, or uneven teeth. Dr. John Cross, a dentist in Newport Beach, CA, says that addressing each of these issues on a personalized, patient-focused plan is the key to a healthy and satisfying smile. He adds that smile makeovers are a comprehensive cosmetic treatment option that has been growing in popularity in the dental field.
For Newport Beach dentist Dr. John Cross and his cosmetic dentistry practice, OC Lifesmiles, smile makeovers often consist of a comprehensive treatment plan in several areas of dentistry. Each makeover tailors a combination of procedures to achieve the patient’s desired results. Typical procedures include the application of porcelain veneers, clear teeth aligners known as Invisalign®, or teeth whitening to improve the aesthetic quality of teeth.
The AACD also produced a national survey stating that 99.7% of adults believe a smile is an important social asset, and that 74% of adults feel an unattractive smile can adversely affect a person’s chances for employment success. Teeth whitening ranked as the top cosmetic dental procedure prescribed to consumers. Dr. Cross says that everyone deserves to be proud of their smile, and that a smile makeover can help build self-confidence and improve the quality of life for his patients. He adds that the important things to look for in a dental practice when considering a smile makeover are the quality of care and the practice’s commitment to the patient’s desired results. “Having a beautiful smile can be very significant, but patients need to think about their overall health and oral health when choosing a cosmetic dentist. For quality long term results, it is important to select a dentist with extensive education, training, and experience.”

Dr. Cross Improving Patient Experience at his Newport Beach Practice
OC Lifesmiles is a progressive dental practice that provides general and cosmetic dentistry in Newport Beach, CA]. Dr. John Cross is announcing the recent implementation of an online management system that he says will improve patient communication between appointments. He adds that the new system will also enhance his ability to create positive patient experiences with each office visit regardless of whether they are undergoing routine check-ups, or a more complex procedure such as porcelain veneers.
As a dentist in Newport Beach, Dr. John Cross has been designing smiles by combining general, cosmetic, and restorative dental treatment since 1999. In addition to focusing on the latest and safest dental techniques, he says the entire OC Lifesmiles staff is committed to creating positive dental experiences with each office visit. To further enhance their ability to accomplish this, Dr. Cross is announcing the implementation of an online patient management system, which is designed to improve communication between visits and foster the growth of a social network centered on his OC Lifesmiles practice.
The new patient communication system utilizes the latest technology available in practice management, allowing the OC Lifesmiles staff to reach out to patients through email and text message reminders for upcoming appointments. Dr. Cross says the ability to reach out to patients between visits was the driving force behind the adoption of this system. He adds that because patient care and satisfaction plays such an important role in the success of his practice, providing this service and potentially strengthening the practice’s online community was extremely important to the OC Lifesmiles team.
Whether he is performing a routine exam, or a more complex procedure such as dental implants or CEREC restorative dentistry, Dr. Cross says he looks forward to seeing the system in action. As the practice continues to grow, he adds that this was an essential step to ensure patient care remains the top priority at OC Lifesmiles.

My experience at OC Lifesmiles is always a good one. My new hygenist, Tiffany, was super. Of course, Dr. Cross is a bit cranky! : ) Ha Ha
He is a good friend and a great Dentist. I plan on being a customer there until he retires.

To improve this experience, a written set of directions should be included. This would tell the patient what not to eat, drink, etc. and for how long. It would also advise how often to use the whitening trays immediately following the procedure and what the follow on maintenance schedule should be.

Once again Trish (hygienist) took excellent care of me. Very kind, caring, sincere and thorough. Christine in the front office is wonderful as well. Always nice to have Dr. Cross come say hi and appear sincerely interested in my care and health. Always impressed, even though I really don’t like going to the dentist
Thanks! Mike Mendibles

Dr. Cross has done such a fabulous job in the 8+ years I’ve been his patient, it leaves him with very little work to do on me these past few years. I appreciate how he embraces and has mastered cutting-edge technology. It’s also comforting that he remembers minor details about the condition of my teeth without even having to refer to my chart. The girls at the front desk have an equally impressive memory and are so sweet and friendly. It was my first visit with Christy; she was meticulous with my cleaning. After enjoying having Brandee as my hygienist for so many years, I wish Christy would have told me more stories so I could get to know her as well, too.
