Preventive Care

We base our practice on a building block foundation, with the first block being prevention. Our dentists believe prevention of tooth decay, disease, and infection is essential to any oral health program. Our dentists recommend having your teeth examined and professionally cleaned twice a year at our practice. During your exams and cleanings, we screen for oral cancer, periodontal bacteria, and other red flags, using state-of-the-art technology and techniques.

Oral Exams

During an oral exam, Dr. Cross or Dr. Junker will examine your teeth for cavities, fractures, bite problems, and pockets of plaque or bacteria. They will also take X-rays for a further, in-depth look into the mouth and gums.

Oral Cancer Screenings

It is absolutely crucial to catch oral cancer in its earliest stages and prevent it from advancing. Though oral cancer is typically asymptomatic in early stages, Dr. Cross and Dr. Junker can detect signs of the disease through a comprehensive oral exam at our dentistry practice in Newport Beach , serving all of Orange County, to determine if an abnormality is cancerous. Periodontal Program

Periodontal care, or care of the gums, is absolutely necessary in order to maintain optimal health. At OC Lifesmiles, one of our main concerns is the condition of your gums. With the help of diagnostic tools like ADDX bacterial testing and Arestin® antibiotic, we can detect and treat periodontal problems early. Although periodontal disease is often symptom free, if you are experiencing bleeding, swollen, or sensitive gums, a recession of gum tissue, or changes in tooth position, we encourage you to contact our practice and make an appointment. If you have periodontal disease, we offer several treatment options, including antibiotics and laser therapy, which we discuss in further detail below.

Sealants

Often recommended for children, sealants can effectively prevent cavities in the decay-prone back teeth.  The back teeth have certain grooves and pits that a toothbrush and floss simply cannot reach and properly clean. Drs. Cross and Junker will apply the plastic sealant material to the chewing surface of the tooth, and harden it with a special light. Once it is bonded to the tooth, it will prevent decay and bacteria build-up.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is an important part of any dental hygiene routine, as it prevents tooth decay. Our office provides professional-strength fluoride rinses to our patients upon request.
