For many of our patients, restorative dentistry techniques can be very beneficial. However, whenever dental implants are needed, we currently have to refer patients to an oral surgeon to have the implant placed before we are able to create the porcelain crown, called a restoration, to replace the missing tooth. Dr. John Cross understands it can be frustrating for some patients to go to multiple offices, and says some patients are not comfortable seeing a specialist they aren’t familiar with. In an effort to improve his patients’ experiences, as well as to expand his knowledge of restorative dentistry, Dr. Cross is currently enrolled in an in-depth continuing education course on dental implantology. Once completed, Dr. Cross will be able to place dental implants for his own patients. He is already able to provide dental implant restorations for his patients, but he believes that it is beneficial for patients to have the implant and restoration completed by the same doctor. He says that once he is able to add the full dental implant process as a service offered at OC Lifesmiles, it will be easier for him to place patients’ implants exactly where he needs them to be to allow for the restoration to look and function as much like a natural tooth as possible.
